Akaki Tsereteli State University also known as Kutaisi University is a university established in July 1930 in Tbilisi, Georgia, and now located in Kutaisi. Kutaisi is a city rich in cultural traditions. ATSU is one of the country’s oldest higher education institutions with a wide range of educational programs and research directions. The university was established on the basis of Tbilisi State University. The name of the University was given after the famous Georgian poet and national liberation movement Akaki Tsereteli. The University got merged with Kutaisi N Muskhe lishvili Polytechnic Institute on Feb 23rd 2006. The institute is committed to uplift the health care education and output delivery system for the people of the country.
The MBBS (MD) degree provided by the University is recognised around the world. The University is recognised by WHO and ECGMG, which allows students to study in the USA.
The University consists of 9 faculties and Departments that train well-educated specialists. There are 8 professors, 15 associated professors, 9 assistant professorsincluding experts and consultants of different international organisations. The college provides a good ratio of well trained and highly educated faculty members equipped with all the modern technology. It also provides sufficient numbers of non-technical staffs to provide an ambience of self-learning to the students.
Akaki Tsereteli State University is ranked 2nd best Medical University in Georgia. It is also ranked among the first class MBBS schools in Georgia by the World Health Organization (W.H.O).
University co-operates productively with universities and scientific centres of EU, USA and Eastern countries to establish conditions for international accreditation/approval standards and to create the best environment for the student.
The University does not provide any on-campus accommodation facility; it offers assistance to the students in finding a suitable accommodation close to the university.
