Established in 1992,Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU) named after Boris Yeltsin is a university which is jointly operated by the Kyrgyz government and the Government of Russia.KRSU is located in city of Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyzstan. Since its establishment, the university has been cooperating with the Yeltsin Foundation that remains a trusted partner up to the present day. The foundation has been providing financial support to the university such as grants for 50 students in the KRSU, as well as money for the improvement of university equipment. In 2004, by the decree of Kyrgyz President AskarAkayev, the university was named after Boris Yeltsin as a sign of respect to the former President of Russia in his support and encouragement in establishing the KRSU. The Kyrgyz Russian Slavic University is one of the prestigious institutes of higher education in Kyrgyzstan. It provides education in 45 specialties and in three areas.
The University is accredited and listed with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in USA, Institute of International Medical Education (IIME), International Medical Education Directory (IMED), Medical Council of India (MCI) and World Health Organization (WHO). This implies the degree from Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University is recognised worldwide.
KRSU has close links with the universities and research institutes of Europe, Asia and America.During 2008-2011, more than 200 academic staff and students have undergone internship and/or exchange studies programmes at universities of Germany, UK, USA, Italy, etc.
The University has 25 Tremendous Institutes for students’ aesthetic education, 15 Huge Educational and Scientific Centres, 6 Centres for Research and 4 Large-sized Laboratories, a law centre a medical centre. Various cultural and activity centres are also available in the campus of KRSU. There is a well- equipped library. Students in KRSU can participate in different activities such as competitions, cultural festivals, excursions, scientific conferences, and scientific events. Sports facilities like basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, etc. are also available in the campus.
The university has 1973 distinguished and dedicated academic and research staff (106 of them are doctoral candidates and 353 with PhD degree) and 11000 students, including 780 foreign students and about 450 postgraduate and doctoral candidates.The foreign students belong to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Republic of Belarus, India, Pakistan, Israel, China, South Korea.Courses are taught by lecturers from Germany, China, Switzerland, Japan, France and etc.
