Founded in 1921,Poltava Ukrainian Medical &Somatological Academy better known as Poltava State Medical and Dental Academy(USMA) is a tertiary education institution in Poltava, Ukraine.The academy offers courses in English Medicine(MB/BS), Dentistry and Nursing. UMSA offers an intimate, collegial environment, which fosters human values and genuine learning. This is in harmony with the traditional idea of living and learning together. UMSA was founded in Ukraine 1921 as Poltava State Medical and Dental University by the Odontologic Faculty of the Kharkiv Medical Academy. In 1967, the academy moved to Poltava and was given its current name. Poltava is the city of Ukraine and administrative centre of Poltava region. It is situated on the North-East of our country, on the Pridneprovskaya lowland and lies on the banks of the river Vorskla.
Accreditation & Recognition- In 1994, the University was granted the sixth highest accreditation level in Ukraine, as well as the status of a Poltava State Medical University, because of its low surgical death rate. As of 2004, PSMU had reached a confirmed level IV accreditation.The University is officially accredited and recognised by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The MBBS, BDS, MD, MS degrees of Poltava university are fully recognised by Medical Council Of India (MCI), World Health Organization (WHO), International Medical Education Directory (IMED), US Education Department and General Council Of Medicine of Great Britain.
Campuses and buildings- The academy occupies sixteen buildings, including five academic buildings, four dormitories, household enclosures, a vivarium, hangars, a library, reading rooms, sports complex, dining room, cafe, and health and sports camp. The student population is over 3,500 including international students.
Faculty & Staff- USMA has six faculties and a preparatory department for international students. PSMU conducts courses varying from two to six years in medicine, paediatrics, oral surgery, maxillofacial surgery, pharmacy and medical nursing. Students range from graduate to masters levels.
Clinical and consulting work is carried out at thirty-five clinical chairs located in regional and city medical institutions. Research is also conducted. The scientific potential of the UMSA is represented by 82 Doctors of Medical Science, 316 Candidates of Science, 75 professors, 174 assistant professors, 2 winners of the Ukrainian State Prize, 8 Honoured Science and Technology Workers of Ukraine, 6 Honoured physicians of Ukraine.
Admission Procedure- This 98 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. International students are welcome to apply for enrolment.
Courses & Programs- Ukrainian Medical Somatological Academy (UMSA) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognised higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.
University Campus - Academy offers – several hostels, dining room, a sports complex, vivarium, a sports camp, a library and reading rooms, assembly hall.
